Rising star Astro is stealing our hearts left and right, first with Cha Eun Woo in “My ID is Gangnam Beauty,” and then with their impeccable songs and dance moves, which we’re dying to see at the September 30 K-Expo concert. Scroll down to find out more about this K-pop boy band that debuted only three years ago.
1. Astro means a star in Spanish
The band’s name symbolizes the members’ wish to become a sparkling star in the fans’ hearts. A triangle and an upside-down arrow intertwined in the logo represents Astro and the fans, respectively. Their fan club name is Aroha.
2. Their debut was through a web drama
K-pop artists typically debut on a music show, but the Astro members’ first appearance on screen was the 2015 web series “To Be Continued.” This 12-episode-long high school romance story stars actress Kim Sae Ron as well as the boy band!
3. Astro members are chummy with other idol groups
Astro and KNK members are really good friends, and the two groups danced together on stage a couple of times. Astro’s Moon Bin and Girlfriend’s Shinbi are old friends who took dance classes together when they were biding their time to become K-pop stars. Yerin of the same girl group and Astro’s Eunwoo are good friends as well. The Astro members are pretty close to Seventeen as well. Listen in on Eunwoo and Seveenteen’s Mingyu’s conversation in the video above.
4. Five of the six members attended Hanrim Arts School
All Astro members, except for MJ, attended or are attending Hanlim Multi Art School, an arts high school in Seoul. Pictured above is Eun Woo and Moon Bin on their graduation day in February 2016. Sanha and Rocky are the younger members who are still attending.
5. Astro knows how to have fun
What kind of idol group would make funny faces like this after a show? Astro members seem to have more fun in the privacy of their dance studio, though. Click here or the Instagram post below to watch Eun Woo on a video chat with his “girlfriend” named Aroha, and the rest of the members butting in.
6. Cha Eun Woo has starred in a Hello Venus m/v with Seo Kang Joon
Cha Eun Woo and Seo Kang Joon starred in Hello Venus’s “Mysterious” M/V to support their sixth mini album. Eunwoo appears as a bellboy in a pink suit, and Kang Joon as a bougie train rider.
7. They know how to do summer right
When your favorite band films a commercial for a dessert cafe that serves different flavors of bingsu, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the band loves bingsu. But when Eun Woo asks you to go eat bingsu with him, there’s no way you can say no to that!
